Back about 4 weeks ago, we had a sow that didn’t co-operate real well when we were putting them into the farrowing pens. She managed to jump through the creep (little piglet) area into a different alley about 3 times, wreaking a few heatlights in the process, and certainly not making any friends with the management team!
This morning was weaning time. This time, she went down one wrong alley, before trying to jump through the 1 foot gap between the pen and the wall instead of going through the open door.(’cause who would want to walk through an open doorway !?!)
Not wanting her to just keep shoving where she didn’t actually fit, I stuck my hand in her face to try and back her up. Some how 2 of my fingers went right in her mouth, at which point she chomped down quite significantly! Although she did back up and go the right way, my finger started to throb shortly there after.
So now I am typing this one handed while I keep the other one elevated. (I hope you appreciate it) and am hoping she has learned her lesson when she goes onto the shipping truck Tuesday.(I’m not betting on it!)
